Atium
Atium is a high-fidelity, wireless noise-canceling headphone project designed to bridge the gap between technical performance and personal expression. Developed as an individual study in form and materiality, the project emphasizes a subtle yet expressive design language, utilizing a unique frictional ball-joint architecture to achieve a tailored, ergonomic fit for a premium target audience.

problem
The primary challenge lay in the adjustment mechanism. Standard telescopic headbands often break the visual continuity of the product and lack a high-end tactile feel. We sought to develop a solution that integrated the sliding and angling movements into a single, fluid component that provides consistent resistance and a premium user experience.
solution
The objective was to design a personal audio device that functions as both a high-performance tool and a luxury accessory. Atium focuses on a minimalist aesthetic that conveys personality through sophisticated color palettes and innovative mechanical details, moving away from the plastic-heavy look of traditional consumer electronics toward a more architectural, refined silhouette.
01 Design Story: Subtle Expression
Atium was designed for an audience that values quiet luxury—individuals who seek products that are functional yet possess a distinct soul. The design story follows the transition from raw mechanical components to a unified, organic form. Every element, from the hidden speaker grilles to the singular control interface, was curated to minimize visual noise, allowing the user to focus entirely on the auditory experience.
02 Sketching & Ideation
The ideation process involved a rapid exploration of organic vs. geometric architectures. By iterating on the relationship between the ear cup and the headband, the design evolved into a single-arm structure. This phase focused on the "kinematics of fit"—calculating the exact curves needed to provide optimal clamping force while maintaining a sleek, non-intrusive profile.

03 Kinetic Adjustment
The core innovation of Atium is its Frictional Ball-Joint Track. Unlike traditional notched sliders, this system utilizes a ball joint that moves along a precise track with calibrated friction. This allows the user to adjust both the height and the angle of the ear cups in one continuous motion, ensuring a perfect seal and a truly personalized fit without the need for multiple visible hinges.
04 Design Details
Underneath the minimalist exterior lies a suite of highly intentional functional details.
Unified Control Interface: A single tactile button manages all primary functions—a single press for Power and a long press for Bluetooth pairing—eliminating the clutter of multiple buttons.
Integrated Ports: A USB-C Charging Port and a dedicated Aux Port are discreetly located at the base of the ear cup for high-speed charging and wired listening.

Architectural Sound: The internal speaker grilles are laser-etched directly into the chassis, ensuring an unobstructed acoustic path and a seamless interior finish.
Magnetic Alignment: The ear cushions are magnetically attached, allowing for effortless maintenance and material replacement.
05 CMF Strategy
The color and material strategy for Atium reflects a Nature-Tech hybrid, harmonizing industrial rigor with organic textures by pairing a Semi-Matte Anodized Aluminum structural body with premium Leather contact points. This philosophy is executed across five temporal colorways that capture the shift of light and environment.

Deep Emerald offers a forest-inspired metallic green that shifts in depth with every movement, while Nomad Champagne provides a sophisticated warmth by pairing light champagne metal with Nomad Beige leather. Haze Silver presents a more ethereal aesthetic with its silver-gray chassis and muted haze-blue accents. For a bolder statement, Midnight Gold combines a deep Night-Sky gray body with refined gold hardware and dark gray leather, followed by Arsenic Purple, which utilizes a complex Arsenic Gray metal with subtle purple undertones and black leather to create a look that is both mysterious and architectural.
